The metal and electrical industry is one of the most important sectors of the processing industry in the Republic of Srpska, both in terms of the number of economic entities, the number of employees, achieved exports and the good distribution of its capacities throughout the territory. The Republic of Srpska has a significant raw material base for this sector such as metal and mineral raw materials (iron ore, bauxite, lead and zinc) and electricity.

Companies within this sector are engaged in the production of base metals, metal products, machinery and equipment, computers, electronic and optical products, electrical equipment, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, other means of transport.

This sector participates with 14.7% in the total achieved production of the Republic of Srpska industry, i.e. with 26.3% in the total achieved production of the processing industry, and in comparison with previous years, this industry records a growth trend of 2.7%.

The metal and electrical industry employs about 24% of the total number of workers employed in the manufacturing industry.

The greatest investment potential exists in the production of parts and components for energy facilities, the automotive industry and the dedicated industry.

Investors also have free capacities for brownfield investments, considering that a significant number of non-privatised companies that are majority owned by the Republic of Srpska operate in this sector, namely the military industry companies: Kosmos a.d. Banja Luka, Orao a.d. Bijeljina and Fabrika motora specijalne namjene a.d. Pale is also owned by the RS Government, which can be invested in through the privatisation process, and Nova tvornica prečistača a.d. Rogatica.
